travel>>>
- Temperature: Around 36 degrees -
sweltering heat outside air-con buildings.
- September free-and-easy package
cost us Singapore
$369 inclusive of a day trip to Ayuthaya.
- Asia Hotel: Central location, good
and convenient, sheltered link to Sky Train.
- Mode of transportation within Bangkok: Sky Train
(affordable and easy to travel on), Tuk Tuk (relatively safe, very
cheap) and taxis (know your destinations in Thai, ask for meter to
be on, cheap during off-peak hours)
- Wear shoes (no slippers or sandals
allowed) and decent clothing or you'll have to go into the Grand Palace wearing rented shoes and
clothes.
- Make sure you take the guide to
the Grand Palace
at the entrance because it is really a superb publication that explains
succinctly in pictures and diagrams what the Grand Palace
is about. Take an extra one for the scrap book.
- If you can, go to Ayuthaya on your
own (by train) and spend at least two days there and make sure you visit
the museums because that's where all the treasures are.
Spend at
least a day at the Grand Palace and don't miss the National Museum.
